Throwback Scoring / Rules for 2021
All Throwback Fantasy Leagues players must pay a SHGN $7.95 fee that helps to cover regulatory fees that allow us to operate in many states.
League Renewal Deadline: February 15, 2021
Offseason Roster Increase (for onboarding rookies)
In 2022, when a league rolls over for the new year on MFL, the roster limit will be temporarily increased 4-10 spots depending on league type. At this time, all players will be removed from IR and Taxi and placed on the active roster. The roster setting will return to it's normal limit after the May rookie draft and before June 1.
Rosters will not be checked until September 1 in best ball leagues. If a team fails to do so by September 1, the commissioner will take whatever steps necessary to get your roster within the limit. Commissioner must be notified of offending team(s).
In non-best ball leagues, teams will not be able to set a lineup, make waiver moves, or trades until at or under the limit. Teams must be under the limit by the first kickoff of week 1. Contact us if you see a roster over the limit after week 1 kicks off. If a team fails to do so by kickoff of week 1, the commissioner will take whatever steps necessary to get your roster within the limit. Commissioner must be notified of offending team(s).
League Scoring for Dynasty Leagues
IDP leagues do not have INT or Fumble penalties for offensive players.
Bronze Flex, Silver Devy Flex, and Gold Flex Scoring Adjustment
League scoring for these leagues are the same as above except "flexed" a little stronger with the for the following differences.
Starting Lineup for all non-IDP leagues:
For 2021, leagues with only one flex are getting an extra flex to match the rest of the leagues. This affects about half the leagues. 82% wanted this, 14% didn't and 4% had no opinion. Many of the ones that didn't, are in leagues not adding a flex.
Bronze, BronzeFlex, Silver, Gold, Devy, and Silver Devy, Copper/Silver Keeper, Superflex

IDP Starting Lineup
Roster / Lineup Rules
Owners are permitted to submit starting players up until the respective player’s scheduled kickoff. Once a game has begun, all players participating in that game are either locked in as a starter or as a bench player.
During the season, you must be able to field a full lineup every week you are starting a lineup. You don’t have to carry enough players to fill a lineup in the offseason, but must have them by week 1. This also means once the regular season is over, non-playoff teams no longer have matchups and are not required to carry their kickers or defenses or even set lineups anymore.
Tanking / Throwing Games:
Bye week players cannot be in starting lineups. This includes K and DST. If you have no replacements available on your roster, you must pickup a replacement. Refusal to pickup bye week replacements may be considered tanking and may be cause for removal from the league. Rosters may be adjusted by the commissioner at anytime using pregame Fantasy Sharks projections rankings. This means the commissioner will make and necessary add/drops and starting lineup adjustments necessary. Adds will be made based on Fantasy Sharks projections. Drops will be made based on Dynasty League Football ADP or a spare DST or Kicker based on season long rankings. It is possible there are no replacements on the waiver wire.
Owners are not allowed to tank or throw games in order to help another team win. This would constitute collusion and could result in both teams being removed and banned from all leagues.
We must be contacted by end of day Tuesday in order to correct the previous week’s lineup/roster. Rosters/Lineups and Win/Loss for week’s prior to the previous week will not be altered but will be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to remove an owner found to be tanking.
If an owner does not submit a lineup by Thursday morning of each week, the system will automatically submit a lineup using the Fantasy Sharks Lineup Coach. Owners may adjust lineups up until Sunday. Owners that swap out players for injured or obviously inferior players, may be removed from the league. If an owner fails to submit their own lineup for multiple weeks, they may be removed from the league. The lineup may be corrected using Fantasy Sharks projections.
Owners are responsible for making sure they have a set lineup. They should check to make sure their lineup is set and there were no errors. Owners should not depend on the Fantasy Sharks lineup setter. Owners are responsible for personally submitting a lineup each week. Failure to do so will be seen as league inactivity and potentially lead to a team being deemed abandoned.
The Fantasy Sharks lineup setter setting will be turned off for those who trade their future picks and haven’t paid for that year yet.
Injured Reserve Rules
Injured reserve- Only players on the official NFL injured reserve list and designated by (I) are eligible. Teams will not be able to submit a lineup with an ineligible IR player.
Opt-Out players and players placed on Reserve/Covid list will be IR eligible in leagues with IR spots
Suspended players are not allowed on IR
If there are illegal players on injured reserve and we are notified the appropriate moves will be made using DLF’s Dynasty ADP. This is usually only done if the starting of such a player appears to be an attempt to intentionally tank or if the team is potentially abandoned. If someone has an illegal roster due to an IR violation, they will not be able to submit a lineup. This will clear up most roster violations so be patient. Contact us if after kickoff Sunday if they have not corrected.
Injured Reserve must be cleared before the renewal deadline each year. If there are players on injured reserve after the renewal deadline, the appropriate moves will be made using DLF’s Dynasty ADP or fantasy pros rankings if necessary. All moves will be final. If the team is an orphan, the appropriate moves will be made using DLF’s Dynasty ADP or fantasy pros rankings if necessary.
Taxi Squad Rules for Devy Leagues
Only players who are rookies or devy players are allowed on taxi squads. People may promote and demote from their taxi squad all year. All non-devy players must be off the taxi squad by the renewal deadline each year. If they are not, they will be dropped from the roster. If the team is an orphan, the appropriate moves will be made using DLF’s Dynasty ADP.
The only leagues with taxi will be developmental leagues
As an anti-collusion and anti-tanking measure, there may be players deemed “undroppable.” Start-worthy players and players ranked high enough they should be rostered in dynasty leagues are generally considered undroppable given the depth of rosters allowed. SafeLeagues/Throwback will determine if a player is undroppable and correct if done. SafeLeagues/Throwback will also decide whether a player was dropped in an attempt at collusion or tanking.
Drafts For Existing Dynasty Leagues
In 2022, the rookie drafts will be held the first Monday after one week has passed after the NFL draft. (This means about 8 days inbetween the NFL draft and rookie draft) --- May 9, 2022)
Drafts for Dynasty leagues (Total keeper) will be 4 rounds (non – serpentine). The first 2 rounds will begin the second Monday of May. The last 2 rounds will begin in August.
Drafts for Development Dynasty Leagues (Silver and Regular) will be 6 rounds (non-serpentine). A 3 round rookie draft beginning the second Monday in May. The last 3 rounds will be a Developmental draft beginning in August (non-NFL players only)
Drafts for IDP leagues will be 6 rounds (non – serpentine). The first 3 rounds will begin the second Monday in May. The last 3 rounds will be in August.
No draft can take place until a league is full. The above are tentative dates.
If a league is not full, the rookie draft will take place on the first Monday after seven days from the date of the league filling. Meaning once a league fills. there will be a 7 day wait. Then the draft will be held on the nearest Monday after that 7 day wait.
Picks 1-9 will be decided by fantasy regular season potential points (not including fantasy playoffs). This will curb any potential tanking. Benching a stud does no good when potential points determines draft order. If you don’t know what potential points is, MFL tracks what your best possible lineup could have been for that week. This gives a better view of how good your team is and could have been. We strongly feel this is better for draft order in that it appropriately gives pick order to worse rosters. It also curbs tanking in that there is no reason to bench a stud player in hopes of a better draft pick. That stud’s points will be counted when calculating draft order. The potential points totals used for draft order will be the total through the end of the fantasy regular season (not including playoffs). This will be the order for each round of the draft.
Draft Order (rules for the 2021 rookie draft)
The draft order for the annual rookie draft will be determined as follows:
The following criteria will be used to break any ties when determining the draft order:
Through 5 days before the season starts, timer is 8 hours per pick,
Devy Draft Notes
Dynasty League Schedule
Teams start playing during week 1 of the NFL season. The regular season lasts for 15 weeks; the playoffs begin in week 15 and the league Championship is in week 17.
The NFL increased the season to 18 weeks and implemented week 14 bye weeks. So the regular season will be weeks 1-14, with the fantasy playoffs being weeks 15-17.
Schedule and Division
Will be randomized upon moving over to the new year on Myfantasyleague. There will be 3 divisions of 4 teams.
Dynasty League – Waivers
Any player not currently on an active league roster is a free agent (NFL players only). The player pool for players is set and maintained by MyFantasyLeague and we can not and will not add players.
Throwback Fantasy Leagues will use a Free Agent Acquisition Budget and each team will start each year with $1000 in blind bidding dollars. Teams will put in bids on free agents and the highest bid will get the player. If there is a tie for a bid amount, the earliest submitted bid will win the player.
FAAB is new for 2021, was previously a waiver order. This had to change because the old method was no longer possible. This passed with a margin of 65% to 25% over rolling waivers with 10% having no opinion.
FCFS Free agency will open up immediately after waivers are processed. Your league calendar will have the exact times and dates.
The first waiver run will be the Wednesday at 1PM EST before the season starts. Waivers will run 1PM EST on Wednesday each week of the fantasy season and stop prior to the Championship game.
The weekly waiver run will be followed by First Come First Serve waivers which are open up until kickoff of each players game.
NFL Supplemental Draft Players
Players entering the NFL supplemental will be treated as free agents when MFL adds them and be available by whatever process for acquiring free agents is in place in each league. In Throwback, that generally means they will be available for the August drafts.
The act of “throwing games”, which is losing on purpose by submitting a lineup with players that would not normally be started, will not be tolerated. Owners may protest a lineup up until end of day Tuesday. The Commissioner may then adjust the lineup in question by using pre-game average weekly rankings/projections. Further action, such as the possible removal from the league or all leagues for the offending owner, may be taken.
Dynasty League Trading
Trading is automatic. It will immediately process upon being accepted.
If an owner contacts us via email within a reasonable amount of time and says a deal was accepted in error or made an accident in the trade they offered, we will reverse that trade. It may not be done immediately since we aren’t next to our email at all times, but timestamps will be checked. Sometimes with accidents in the offer of trades it isn’t noticed until the trade is accepted or even later. The longer the wait, the more scrutiny we’ll look at the obviousness/reason of the error.
The trade deadline will be the NFL kickoff of week 12 each year (kickoff of the first Thursday game)
Trading of Draft Picks
Teams can trade draft picks for draft picks or draft picks and/or players.
Future year draft picks can be traded. You must pay for the future year in order to trade future picks. The link is available in the left side module of every league.
Trading future picks without paying for the future year will result in all of your teams in SafeLeagues and Throwback to be locked.
Teams may only trade draft picks one year in advance of current year.
A future year’s pick becomes available when MFL rolls over for the upcoming season if a team has paid for that future year.
Protesting of Trades
If you believe that there is collusion involving a trade or a trade is far too unbalanced, email the commissioner. Preferably as soon as you can. If possible, provide evidence as to why you think the trade may be collusive. To protest a trade during the season owners must submit a protest to the commissioner by email within 24 hours of the trade.
If we recieve 3 protests, we will look for collusion.
We will also go to the DLF Trade Calculator. If the trade comes up as one side receiving more than 2.5x the value of the other side based on DLF’s trade analyzer, it will be reversed.
If there is a draft pick trade where all the higher picks are on one side, the trade will almost always be reversed if notified and it will be looked into. If there is an instance where the majority of the higher picks are on one side to a degree it doesn’t make sense, it may be reversed.
The Commissioner will review and the decision after that review will be final.
Any acts of collusion will be dealt with by the commissioner with the possibility of expulsion from all leagues without refund for the involved owners. Examples of this would be one team attempting to dump/transfer their players to another team via add/drop or trade, throwing games when playing another owner, or an owner attempting to have multiple teams in the same league.
Player renting is always collusion in any league. It is two teams working together at the detriment of one other team and/or the league. Player renting can be trading a player or players for picks or players and then trading back within the same season. Even if one team acquires slightly more benefit. An example. Team A trades Gurley for a 1st and 4th to team B. A week or two later Team B trades Gurley back for that 1st. Team A keeps the 4th. Even with benefit, player rentals are always collusion in any league. Trading players not on bye for players on bye and then trading back also falls under this. Trading players to one team making a playoff run and then trading those players back after the season also falls under this. Player rentals are always collusion in any league and can not be allowed even once.
Offering anything, money, food, goods, or services, draft picks that aren't accessible yet, benefits of any kindoutside of the actual league for assets in the league constitutes collusion as well. Only trading available picks, players, blind bidding money is allowed. Such trades will be reversed and owners may be removed from the league without refund.
Intentionally and knowingly trading better assets in a trade they know is bad to load up another team can be considered collusion.
Behavior of dropping and adding players between two teams could be considered collusion.
Any working together between two teams in move(s) to help another team win their matchup or the league can be considered collusion.
Playoff Seeding Simplified Version
The 3 division winners are decided by W-L, then divisional record, then total points
Then those 3 division winners are seeded based on winning percentage, total points for, Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored (Points Against). They will be seeded 1-3.

The divisional winners will then be ranked for the playoff bracket 1-3 1st by winning percentage, if needed then by total points, then by Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored (Points Against), if still tied then by a coin flip.
The best 3 teams of the remaining 9 will be the wildcard teams. They will be sorted by winning percentage, then by total points for, then by Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored (Points Against), if still tied then by a coin flip. Their playoff ranking will be 4-6.

Dynasty League Prizes

This is new for 2021 as voted by users (61% Yes, 23% No, 16% No Opinion). It doesn’t really change gameplay, so it’s barely a change. Teams generally would love to try and win the league twice in a row. The only thing that really changes is that a team may be less inclined to give up and rebuild as a reigning champ. One thing that an empire pot has proven to do over time, especially the more years the pot builds, is help against turnover and people stick around to go after the pot if it grows enough. Champions are also less likely to leave. So those benefits might be helpful for these leagues.
Throwback Fantasy Leagues will now have a Empire feature.
Once a team wins the league twice in a row, they win the pot and the league is over. It will not be a traditional empire however... if there is enough interest, Throwback may allow for a vote to continue the league. If 7 or more paid teams vote to continue the league, the league will continue.
Empire/Progressive pots are funded by SafeLeagues/Throwback. They are not funded by owners of the league. They are paid out separately from the normal league prize payouts. No owner has a claim to this pot, whether it be a portion or all of the pot. No owner is guaranteed the right to attempt to win this pot and that opportunity is forfeited if they leave or are removed. If a league folds before there is a double champion, the empire pot will not pay out.
They pot will max out after 5 years. At that point the Empire pot will be $250 and remain $250 until won.
Progressive pots and empire pots must be won by the team manager twice in a row. If a team manager leaves or is removed after winning the league, the throne is abdicated and there is no reigning champion.
If the league is won by a back to back champion and the league chooses to continue, the empire pot will no longer exist.
After each season, if a league has 7 paid teams, it will continue. It is treated as the league voting 7 out of 12 to continue. If it does not, SafeLeagues may approach the remaining teams in the league may have a discussion or even hold vote on whether or not to continue. If the decision is to close the league, it will close and any future payments and deposits will be refunded. Throwback will make the final decision.
League Management Service / Host
Throwback Fantasy Leagues proudly uses MyFantasyLeague as our game play provider (“MFL” or “Game Play Site”). Owners will receive a link and login information to their MFL league after making payment for their league. We are at the mercy of MFL for their players and designations. This includes available players, positions, injury or suspended designations, etc. We will not manually change and designation or add players to the player pool. That is designated and done by the host site.
Owner’s Experience Level
An owner’s experience level will be noted on MFL sites with one of these two markers. If an team manager does not meet these qualifications they will not have a marker next to their team. Each league/year you enter is a separate contest. If you play in a dynasty league, each year is a new contest.
If a team is abandoned during the season, Throwback Fantasy Leagues will look to fill that open team as fast as they can. They will not actively manage or actively make moves for that team (add/drops, trades, etc).
A team may be deemed abandoned for several reasons including but not limited to failure actively manage the team (set lineups, make moves required at certain deadlines, missing draft picks, etc) or a non-responsive owner who has not responded to our attempts to contact. A team may be deemed abandoned even if they respond to our attempts to contact, but still do not begin actively managing their team.
When a team has been deemed abandoned, either because of a suspected cheating owner, being a non-responsive owner, and/or no longer actively managing their team, Throwback will look for an owner to take over that team for the remainder of the season. This may also be due to a team being inactive due to not paying for their future season after trading their future 1st. There will be no refunds for an abandoned team. If a team has abandoned their team during season, they may be removed from all leagues and banned from Throwback/Safeleagues.
If a team has been deemed abandoned as a result of not making their entry fee payment prior to the League Renewal Deadline, Throwback will attempt to sell the franchise as that team will have become an orphan and will have not been renewed for the upcoming season.
Once you pay for a contest/league there are no refunds after you have made any moves (draft picks, waivers, trades, etc). Only under rare circumstances at the discretion of Throwback will there be refunds for leagues.
If you have orphaned 3 or more teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback, you may not be allowed to purchase orphans or new teams. You must also be paid up in your SafeLeagues/ Throwback leagues before purchasing orphans or new teams. If you abandoned teams in season the prior year, you may not be allowed to purchase new orphans or teams. You may also be banned from buying teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback indefinitely.
Season cancellation or partial season
If there is no NFL season, the payments for teams in existing leagues would be pushed back a year (Example: to 2021 for 2020 payments and 2022 for 2021 payments).
In the event of a shortened season being announced, depending on the length of the shortened season, Throwback will design a regular season and playoffs that fit, or at least turn into a total points league for the shortened season.
If the season is cut short after a head to head schedule with playoffs is designed for the Throwback League (the season starts normally and is cancelled before there is a fantasy playoffs or during the playoffs and the playoffs are unable to be played out fully), Winning Percentage (W-L record) at the time the season is cut short will be used to decide the places of the teams with Total Points as the tiebreaker.
If the season is interrupted (they start and stop and resta) Throwback will finish out the fantasy season along with the NFL. They will work within the settings of MyFantasyLeague to figure out the best course for schedule, and/or playoffs. It is possible there will not be enough games for playoffs.
If the season is cut short in a league with weekly payouts, the total pool amount allocated for those payments will be divided among the amount of weeks played. For example:
If there is no season, Throwback will figure out the best way to design 2021 rookie draft order after that cancellation of season is decided. It may be the same as 2020, it may be another way. That decision will not be made until we know for sure there will be no season. Teams trading 2021 draft picks will do so knowing full well of the possibility of no 2020 season and a potentially uniquely modified 2021 draft order because of it.
If the season ends early, trading will be turned off for those unpaid for the following year. Trading will be reinstated once the following year is paid for.
If you have orphaned 3 or more teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback that you owned in previous years, you may not be allowed to purchase orphans or new teams. You must also be paid up in your SafeLeagues/Throwback leagues before purchasing orphans or new teams. This includes paying for future years in leagues you have traded your future first. If you abandoned teams in season in previous years, you may not be allowed to purchase new orphans or teams. You may also be banned from buying teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback indefinitely.
If you abandon a team without picks in each round for the next draft, you might not be allowed to buy orphans or new teams.
If you abandon a team with just it's 1st round pick, wrecking the team for a new owner and trading away all their future assets except the first to avoid paying for the next year, you will likely be banned from getting new teams.
Once on the banned list from buying orphans or new teams due to orphaning too many, you must renew all your teams the following year or you will remain on the list and barred from buying new teams. Even if you renew all your teams, you may remained barred from new teams at the discretion of SafeLeagues.
If you abandon 3 or more teams, you may be barred indefinitely from buying new teams and potentially removed from leagues (with refund of future payments) and no longer allowed to be a SafeLeagues customer at the discretion of SafeLeagues.
If you join multiple new leagues and drop them after one year, you may be barred indefinitely from buying new teams and potentially removed from leagues (with refund of future payments) and no longer allowed to be a SafeLeagues customer at the discretion of SafeLeagues.
SafeLeagues maintains the right to remove any team manager from a team, with refund, for any reason. SafeLeagues also reserves the right to refuse their services to any person for any reason. Meaning a yearly ban or lifetime ban.
Conduct/Terms of Service
Conduct that is deemed detrimental to the league or to SafeLeagues/Throwback will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, posts and or emails that are harassing in nature and serve no legitimate purpose other than to cause discord within the league or the SafeLeagues organization. There is a difference between expressing viewpoints or likes/dislikes of a league or format or normal trash talk about occurrences in a league (trades, matchups, etc) and personal attacks or threats toward fellow team managers or the commissioner. Personal attacks or threats toward fellow team managers or the commissioner will not be tolerated. Vulgarity in emails, on the message board, trade comments, or in other ways (text, images, videos, etc) will not be tolerated.
Failure to comply may result in immediate expulsion from that league or all leagues without refund.
In addition; offensive wording and images in emails, on the message board, trade comments, text, images, team names, team logos, videos, and other various ways) that is disparaging, antogonizing, or offensive towards gender, race, orientation, disabilities, etc will not be tolerated. Instances of this could result in a warning and having the offending text/images taken down, ability to customize your team locked, or even result in immediate expulsion without refund.
In most cases, the commissioner must be notified of these incidents and will deal with them case by case.
In addition, attempts to negatively impact the integrity of the league (i.e. threatening or outright refusal to submit lineups, partaking in bogus trades, disruption of a live draft etc.) will result in an immediate expulsion, without refund, from SafeLeagues/Throwback.
Throwback Fantasy Leagues expressly reserves the right to remove an owner from a league with refund at Throwback’s discretion.
Throwback Fantasy Leagues expressly reserves the right to immediately modify, suspend or terminate your account with no refund and refuse current or future use of any Throwback Fantasy Leagues service, including the fantasy football service, if Throwback Fantasy Leagues , in its sole discretion: (a) believes you have violated or tried to violate the rights of others; (b) becomes aware of information indicating a safety concern for you, other Throwback Fantasy Leagues users, or the general public, or (c) believes that you have acted inconsistently with the spirit or letter of the Terms of Service.

If you are unpaid in any leagues, your abilities will be locked in all leagues. A delay in payment may lead to removal from that league or even all leagues.. This is generally due to trading a future first and being unpaid but may also include paying via ACH and it not going through (not clearing) or being refunded the league payment via chargeback from your credit card company or somehow getting a refund from leaguesafe.
If you file a chargeback with your credit card company or get a refund through leaguesafe when you shouldn’t per our rules, you may be banned from Safeleagues/Throwback and may be removed from all leagues.
You may not advertise, promote, or post about other leagues in other services similar to ours or about other services similar to ours on our message boards, chats, etc. Doing so could result in removal from the league or all your leagues without refund.
Tanking in order to improve draft position or give another team a win is prohibited. Examples include, but not limited to starting injured or bye week players when you have replacements available or benching players who should obviously be starting. If you see questionable lineups, contact me by email by end of day Tuesday. The commissioner reserves the right to adjust any lineup, if necessary, using the Fantasy Sharks starting lineup guide. Tanking may result in removal without refund.
Failing to submit a lineup multiple times during the season can also result in removal from a league or all leagues without refund.
