Rules Common to all Leagues

Adjustments / Alterations to the below rules are stated above.

There is a $6.95 regulatory fee to help pay for the regulation and licensing fees that now exist in many states. SafeLeagues pays for licensing and registration in nearly all states that have one and allow fantasy sports to be played. Due to this, there are only a few states where fantasy sports are banned: Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Vermont, or Washington. We are legal in all other states and Canada. Unfortunately SafeLeagues isn't legal outside of US/Canada.

All league finances will be administered by SafeLeagues through the LeagueSafe website. End-of-season payouts will be allocated in accordance with the Terms of Service.

League Host

SafeLeagues proudly uses MyFantasyLeague as our game play provider (“MFL” or “Game Play Site”). team managers will receive a link and login information to their MFL league after making payment for their league. We are at the mercy of MFL for their players and  designations. This includes available players, positions, injury or suspended designations, etc. We will not manually change and designation or add players to the player pool. That is designated and done by the host site.

Franchise Manager Rules

  1. No team manager may have a stake in more than one franchise in the same league.
  2. If an team manager abandons their franchise (either by declaring that they have given up their team, failing to pay by the payment deadline for the upcoming season, non-responsiveness, or not actively managing their team), the team manager gives up their claim to any and all prize winnings.
  3. If an team manager abandons a team after the draft has started or after making transactions they will not be eligible for a refund and may not be allowed to buy new teams or orphans. Only in rare circumstances will a refund be allowed.
  4. If a franchise is deemed to have been abandoned, the that franchise reverts to SafeLeagues. SafeLeagues may sell abandoned League franchises at cost, below cost, or to the highest bidder through the SafeLeagues website.
  5. If an team manager dies or is otherwise incapacitated, his/her team may be bequeathed in accordance with his/her last will and testament, or if incapacitated, member’s power of attorney. Please see additional details in the section entitled “INHERITANCE.”
  6. If an team manager abandons a franchise, that team manager may never re-join the same league as an team manager or co-team manager of a different franchise.
  7. If an team manager is caught cheating by collusion, tanking, or any other means SafeLeagues reserves the right to remove that team manager from the league. SafeLeagues also reserves the right to remove that owner, without refund, from all of their teams in SafeLeagues and ban them from SafeLeagues. A cheating owner forfeits claim to any and all prize winnings.
  8. Co-team managers are not allowed for the purposes of paying the annual entry fee or receiving prize money. I.e. one team manager must pay the entire entry fee, and only one team manager will receive winnings due to the franchise. Co-team managers are allowed on the Game Play site.
  9. team managers may not give/sell their team to another person. All team managers must legally go through geolocation and identity verification, so giving/selling of a team from one team manager to a new person without approval from SafeLeagues is strictly prohibited and the team will be taken away and revert back to SafeLeagues and the team manager or team managers may be banned from SafeLeagues without refund.
  10. If an owner is removed, they forfeit any prizes the team had won up to that point and are not eligible for prizes that team would have won.
  11. Progressive pots are funded by SafeLeagues. They are not funded by owners of the league. They are paid out separately from the normal league prize payouts. No owner has a claim to this pot, whether it be a portion or all of the pot. No owner is guaranteed the right to attempt to win this pot and that opportunity is forfeited if they leave or are removed.
  12. Progressive pots and empire pots are won by the team manager winning the league twice in a row. If a team manager leaves or is removed after winning the league, the throne is abdicated and there is no reigning champion.
  13. Users are not allowed to operate on the same IP address. If you are in a league with a co-worker, friend, relative, or person in the same household where this may be happening... this should be disclosed to SafeLeagues and an exception may be made. Failure to do so can result in removal from the league or all leagues. This is especially important for users in the same leagues.

Owner’s Experience Level

An owner’s experience level will be noted on MFL sites with one of these two markers. If an team manager does not meet these qualifications they will not have a marker next to their team. Each league/year you enter is a separate contest. If you play in a dynasty league, each year is a new contest.

Experienced

  • More than 500 contests entered OR
  • Has winnings totaling $2500 cumulative across 5+ contests

Highly Experienced

  • More than 1000 contests entered OR
  • Has winnings totaling $1000 in 3 or more contests

League Deadlines

League Renewal Deadline (Dynasty/Keeper Leagues): February 15

Each franchise must make their payment for the upcoming season prior to February 15. If payment has not been received by February 15 SafeLeagues reserves the right to declare a franchise as abandoned. We need to sell orphans before the early May rookie drafts to ensure all leagues are filled and ready on time. This is a dynasty league, year round interaction and activity is expected.

Annual Rookie Draft (Dynasty/Keeper Leagues): May 9th, 2022

  • The annual rookie draft will be held after all league members have renewed for the upcoming season and/or after all orphaned teams have been sold. This will be approximately the first Monday in May. On the rare occasion if there are still orphans to be sold, the draft will be delayed until the league is full.
  • In 2022, the rookie drafts will be held the first Monday after one week has passed after the NFL draft. (This means about 8 days inbetween the NFL draft and rookie draft) --- May 9, 2022)

Offseason Roster Increase (for onboarding rookies)

In 2022, when a league rolls over for the new year on MFL, the roster limit will be temporarily increased 4-10 spots depending on league type. At this time, all players will be removed from IR and Taxi and placed on the active roster. The roster setting will return to it's normal limit after the May rookie draft and before June 1.

Rosters will not be checked until September 1 in best ball leagues. If a team fails to do so by September 1, the commissioner will take whatever steps necessary to get your roster within the limit. Commissioner must be notified of offending team(s).

In non-best ball leagues, teams will not be able to set a lineup, make waiver moves, or trades until at or under the limit. Teams must be under the limit by the first kickoff of week 1. Contact us if you see a roster over the limit after week 1 kicks off. If a team fails to do so by kickoff of week 1, the commissioner will take whatever steps necessary to get your roster within the limit. Commissioner must be notified of offending team(s).

Empire/Progressive Pots in EMPIRE style leagues

If, for any reason, SafeLeagues ceases the operation and administration of empire leagues entirely or the league is disbanded/closed (not to be confused with dynasty or DLF cup series leagues) before the pot has been won and removed from the league, each active paid league member will receive a payout equal to one-twelfth (1/12) of the Progressive Pot.

They are paid out separately from the normal league prize payouts. No owner has a claim to this pot, whether it be a portion or all of the pot. No owner is guaranteed the right to attempt to win this pot and that opportunity is forfeited if they leave or are removed.

Progressive pots and empire pots must be won by the team manager twice in a row. If a team manager leaves or is removed after winning the league, the throne is abdicated and there is no reigning champion.

As stated in the empire league termination clause, all empire leagues have an end date. That has been adjusted prior to the 2021 season giving all empire leagues 5 more years to conclude.

2025 termination clause for all empire leagues - The previous rule was 10 or 20 years from the start of an empire league depending on the style of league. Empire leagues were always designed with an end set in place. Either by hitting a year limit, or a back to back winner. This has been altered to the end of the 2025 season for all empire leagues. There are still 5 seasons to be played, but after that all empire leagues will end.

Progressive Pots in DYNASTY style leagues (Dynasty Leagues that started in 2018-2020)

We had put in that they would max out after 5 years and have since rescinded that. They will grow until won.

If the league is won by a back to back champion, the pot will no longer exist. It's a start of the league added bonus. We had previously reset this pot in the few leagues where it was won right away. There had previously been no rule on whether or not we would do that, we just did it. This is just clarifying that we won't anymore.

Progressive pots and empire pots must be won by the team manager twice in a row. If a team manager leaves or is removed after winning the league, the throne is abdicated and there is no reigning champion.

Progressive Pots for leagues that started prior to 2021 are listed below:

  • Basic Dynasty Leagues - Progressive Pot: $25/yr until won
  • Deluxe Dynasty Leagues - Progressive Pot: $50/yr until won
  • Premium Dynasty Leagues - Progressive Pot: $100/yr until won
  • Ultimate Dynasty Leagues - Progressive Pot: $200/yr until won
  • Platinum Dynasty Leagues - Progressive Pot: $300/yr until won

Leagues starting in 2021 and going forward will not have progressive pots.

Dynasty League Deposits (For leagues that have their startup in 2021 and going forward)

There is a deposit for all dynasty leagues to be paid when entering a dynasty league. Dynasty league deposits are equal to the entry fee (Example: a $55 league would have a $55 deposit). This deposit will be refunded if an team manager is still a paid up member of the league at the time it folds. We do everything we can to keep leagues running however if over half the league does not return, the league may vote (of paid members) on whether to continue. Should a team manager leave before the league folds/ends, their deposit is forfeited and will go to help us defray the cost of replacing teams.

Dynasty League Deposits (For leagues that had their startup in 2020 and before)

  • $30 entry - $10 Deposit
  • $55 entry - $20 Deposit
  • $75 entry - $25 Deposit

SHGN MFL/Regulatory Fee

There is a $6.95 regulatory fee to help pay for the regulation and licensing fees that now exist in many states. SafeLeagues pays for licensing and registration in nearly all states that have one and allow fantasy sports to be played. Due to this, there are only a few states where fantasy sports are banned: Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Vermont, or Washington. We are legal in all other states and Canada. Unfortunately SafeLeagues isn’t legal outside of US/Canada.

All league finances will be administered by SafeLeagues through the LeagueSafe website. End-of-season payouts will be allocated in accordance with the Terms of Service.

Roster Rules

You are NOT required to fill all starting lineup requirements in the draft/auction (start-up or rookie), but your starting lineup must be filled by the start of Week 1. You must submit a valid starting lineup weekly.

After the season has concluded and going into the offseason, team managers will have the ability to drop and trade players once they have paid for the upcoming year. The only requirement is that you are able to field a valid starting lineup by week 1 and each week when you submit your lineup.

You must stay within your roster limit at all times. It is a hard roster limit. If you offer a trade, it is wise to make the players even by including the player you could drop. If you are drafting and your roster is full; you must either drop a player and pick a new one, trade the pick, let your timer expire, or even drop one of the players you drafted - wait a minute - then re-draft them.

If an team manager does not submit a lineup by Thursday morning of each week, the system will automatically submit a lineup using the Fantasy Sharks Lineup Coach. team managers may adjust lineups up until kickoff of each players game. team managers that swap out players for injured or obviously inferior players, will be removed from the league. If an team manager fails to submit their own lineup for multiple weeks, they may be removed from the league and the lineup may be corrected using Fantasy Sharks projections.

Team managers are responsible for making sure they have a set lineup. They should check to make sure their lineup is set and there were no errors. team managers should not depend on the Fantasy Sharks lineup setter. team managers are responsible for personally submitting a lineup each week. Failure to do so will be seen as league inactivity and potentially lead to a team being deemed abandoned.

Starting lineups are not allowed to have players on BYE or players who had been listed as OUT with areasonable amount of time to for the team manager correct the lineup. If notified of BYE, injured, or obviously inferior players in lineups, SafeLeagues may correct using Fantasy Sharks projections. This is usually only done if the starting of such a player appears to be an attempt to intentionally tank or if the team is potentially abandoned. In most cases, SafeLeagues will contact the owner. Acts of this may be considered intentional tanking, or inactivity and lead to a team being deemed abandoned. Repeated offenses in multiple leagues may result in being removed from all leagues without refund and banned.

The Fantasy Sharks lineup setter setting will be turned off for those who trade their future 1st and haven’t paid for that year yet.

Players in your starting lineup will lock at their scheduled kickoff. That means you can add/remove a player from your starting lineup as long as their game hasn’t started.

Injured Reserve Rules

Our Dynasty leagues do not have IR spots. They are specifically made deep enough to handle injuries. Our Empire leagues have shallow rosters and the do have 5 IR spots. See the empire rules page for specifics.

If there are illegal players on injured reserve and we are notified the appropriate moves will be made using DLF’s Dynasty ADP. If someone has an illegal roster due to an IR violation, they will not be able to submit a lineup. This will clear up most roster violations so be patient. Contact us if after kickoff Sunday if they have not corrected.

Opt-Out players and players placed on Reserve/Covid list will be IR eligible in leagues with IR spots

Startup Drafts/Auctions

Each franchise will be assigned a draft slot randomly for snake drafts. The startup draft will always include rookies both before or after the NFL draft. In subsequent years, there will be a rookie draft held in May assuming the league has filled all openings.

Startup Live Drafts

Timer: 60 seconds per pick

Live drafts are run on MFL and come complete with an interactive chat room, a timer to keep things moving, and audio announcements of players as they’re picked. If you can’t be at the live draft, you can still make it work by ranking players in advance using MFL’s pre-draft feature, “My Draft List."

If an team manager does not make a pick before the timer expires, the system will automatically pick a player for the team manager based on the highest-ranked available player, on the owner’s “My Draft List” player ranking, and then once that list is exhausted, according to fantasy sharks rankings or MFL’s ADP. If the system errors -- like selecting a player that isn't correct for the ranking/ADP like a random FA or rookie in a startup, or player not representative of ADP/rankings), we may fix the pick allowing the team manager to select a replacement of available players. We may also do this if no player is selected with the pick. We will not revert the draft. Replacement must be made within a day. If you allow the timer to expire three times in a row, your next pick will be automatically made the next time you’re on the clock. An team manager must contact the commissioner to be taken off auto. Timeouts will almost never be changed.

If you are late to the draft room, or have to leave and return, be sure to check and see that auto-draft is not enabled. You will know you’re on auto-draft if the “I’m Away” box is checked (located under the Player List).

Prior to the draft, all leagues will have their draft order randomly generated by MFL once the league has completely filled (you may see a draft order on the site when you sign up – this will change once the league has filled and the order is randomized). The draft will be serpentine, meaning the draft order reverses at the end of each round.

Every team manager will have 60 seconds to make their selection, and no trades are allowed during live drafts.

You must stay within your roster limit at all times. It is a hard limit. If you make trades prior to the live draft, it is wise to make the picks even. If you are drafting a live draft and your roster is full you must let your timer expire.

Live Draft Support

team managers are solely responsible for accessing the live draft room in time for their league’s assigned draft time. SafeLeagues will make a reasonable effort to assist team managers in getting logged into the hosting site (myfantasyleague.com) and informing people where the draft room is located. After that it is the team managers responsibilty to get into the draft room and make their picks on time. SafeLeagues will not be held responsible for late arrivals, technology failures, slow internet connections, etc. A SafeLeagues Commissioner will not be available for live drafts. Should you miss your draft, you will not be refunded. You will need to either play with the team you were auto-drafted or if you choose to quit the league, SafeLeagues may sell your team.

Startup Email Drafts

Timer: 4 hours per pick

Overnight Pause: 8 hours (midnight to 8am EST)

If you would prefer to a serpentine draft over the course of several days or even weeks, you can partake in an email draft. MFL tracks all the details and sends emails after each pick to update everyone on the draft’s progress.  The draft order is randomized once the league is full.

The draft timer will be set at four hours per selection, but the clock will be suspended over night from 12 AM EST to 8 AM EST.

If an team manager does not make a pick before the timer expires, the system will automatically pick a player for the team manager based on the highest-ranked available player, on the owner’s “My Draft List” player ranking, and then once that list is exhausted, according to fantasy sharks rankings or MFL’s ADP. If the system errors -- like selecting a player that isn't correct for the ranking/ADP (like a random FA or rookie in a startup, or player not representative of ADP/rankings), we may fix the pick allowing the team manager to select a replacement of available players.

Trades are allowed before and during the startup draft.

***Because of the varying times picks are made in an email draft, incorrect picks are unlikely to be reverted by the commissioner. team managers are responsible for entering their correct pick, and ensuring it is the player they want before they hit submit. Please use caution! The commissioner will use best judgement. If you immediately contact the commissioner and the timestamps are within a reasonable amount of time and and in most cases if no other picks have been made, a pick may be changed. Timeouts will almost never be changed.

You must stay within your roster limit at all times. It is a hard limit. If you offer a trade, it’s wise to make the players even by including the player you would drop. If you are drafting and your roster is full; you must either drop a player and pick a new one, trade the pick, let your timer expire, or even drop a player - wait a minute - and redraft that player.

Startup Slow Auction Drafts

Slow auction drafts will use the MFL auction module for the initial player distribution auction.

The league will allow a max of 60 players to be up for auction on the board. Each team can only nominate 5 players at a time. Once one of the players you nominated leaves the board, you can nominate a new one. The auction will take 14-21 days to complete. You are not required to nominate, you may also nominate as many players as you want as long as you stay within your roster and budget limit of $1000 (listed as blind bidding dollars in some places).

In 2021, $0 bids in auction will be allowed.

The $1000 auction/blind bidding dollars is all you get for the year. If you do not save any money, you can not bid on free agents during the year and will need to make $0 bids.

On the extremely rare case you end the auction over your auction/blind bidding dollar limit, the last players you acquired will be dropped from your roster until you are under your limit and those players can be re-auctioned. You will have $0 blind bidding dollars going forward. This happens if you have players on the board you have not won yet, and make a trade involving allocated cash. It's extremely rare.

The timer for the slow auction will be set at 16 hours and use a proxy style bidding (ebay style). The timer will reset upon a change in high bidder.

Because there is no way to roll back an auction bid to the previous owner, all bids are final. If you make a mistake it cannot be undone. Be VERY careful when making bids!!!

You are NOT required to field a full roster or but not necessarily a valid starting lineup. You must, however, have a valid starting lineup for week 1.

New nominations will not be allowed after 12 full days.

Trading of auction money (blind bidding dollars) will be allowed during the startup.

You must stay within your roster limit at all times. It is a hard limit. If you offer a trade, it’s wise to make the players even by including the player you would drop.

Annual Rookie Drafts (Dynasty Leagues)

Timer: 4 hours per pick

Overnight Pause: 8 hours (midnight to 8am EST)

Each subsequent year after the startup draft, a draft will be held to distribute rookies. This draft will be held in May after the NFL Draft.

Draft Order (rules for the 2021 rookie draft)

The draft order for the annual rookie draft will be determined as follows:

  • Picks 1-9 will be decided by fantasy regular season potential points (not including fantasy playoffs). They will go in order of lowest amount of potential points to 9th lowest potential points. Potential points are the amount of points a team would have scored each week had they set a perfect lineup. So benching a stud player for a backup will not help your draft position.
  • Pick 10 goes to the 3rd place finisher or 10th fewest potential points if there is no 3rd place prize (This means if 3rd place is paid out, the site might show there is a 3rd place game, but it is meaningless for draft order if there is no prize attached).
  • Pick 11 goes to the 2nd place finisher.
  • Pick 12 goes to the league champion.

The following criteria will be used to break any ties when determining the draft order:

  • Total Points Scored (fewest gets the higher pick)
  • All-play winning % (lowest % gets the higher pick)
  • Divisional Winning Percentage (worst gets the higher pick)
  • Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored

The annual rookie draft is an NFL-style linear draft, meaning the draft order will be the same as shown above for all rounds.

We may also do this if no player is selected with the pick. We will not revert the draft. Replacement must be made within a day. If you allow the timer to expire two times in a row, your next pick will be automatically made the next time you’re on the clock. A team manager must contact the commissioner to be taken off auto. Timeouts will almost never be changed.

You are allowed to trade during the Rookie draft. Trades must be done within your roster limit.

***Because of the varying times picks are made in an email draft, incorrect picks are unlikely to be reverted by the commissioner. team managers are responsible for entering their correct pick, and ensuring it is the player they want before they hit submit. Please use caution! The commissioner will use best judgement. If you immediately contact the commissioner and the timestamps are within a reasonable amount of time and no other picks have been made, a pick may be changed. For the most part, we will apply a “it’s laid, it’s played” viewpoint and you may have to live with the mistake.

There are 3rd party apps (phone and web) to help with things in these leagues. Many people like MFL Platinum. Just a note I recommend against them for drafting. They can cause issues. Most people have no troubles. Use them at your own risk. Neither SafeLeagues nor MFL can control some of the things they do.

Draft Timers as the Season draws near

SafeLeagues offers Live Drafts, Email Drafts, and Slow Auctions for the initial player distribution method.

If a player is not in the system, we can’t add them. We are at the mercy of MFL’s player pool and designations. MFL will likely add them later when they are available.

For leagues still drafting as the NFL season nears, the clock will be adjusted to make sure all leagues finish drafting in time for the season.

Through 5 days before the Season starts - the timer is 4 hours per pick,
4 day before the Season starts - 10AM EST: the timer changes to 3 hours per pick,
3 day before the Season starts - 10AM EST:  the timer changes to 2 hours per pick,
2 day before the Season starts - 10AM EST:  the timer changes to 1 hour per pick,
1 day before the Season starts - 10AM EST:  the timer changes to 15 minutes per pick.

We strongly recommend you pre-draft picks as much as possible leading up to the season.

This should make sure all drafts get done on time for the season.

For Auctions: All auctions will be ended in their tracks at 10AM EST, the Wednesday before the season starts. Whoever has high bid will win that player. There will be the normal 1PM EST waiver run followed by first come first serve waivers.

Schedule

There will be no divisions (except Empire leagues). Tie scores are permitted during regular season play. Schedule will be randomized each year.

The regular season begins on Week 1 of the NFL season and will end upon the conclusion of Week 14 unless the NFL has a shortened or lengthened schedule, in which case SafeLeagues will figure out an alternative schedule or potentially go by total points for that season.

Playoffs

Six teams qualify for the playoffs, as follows: the top two records will get byes (highest winning %) and four wild card teams. In the event of a tie, the spot(s) will be determined by the following tie-breaking criteria:

  • Total Points Scored
  • Divisional Winning Percentage
  • Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored

The 4 wild card spots will be decided by record (highest winning %). In the event of a tie, the “Record-based” wild card spot(s) will be determined by

  • Total Points Scored
  • All-Play Winning %
  • Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored

The top two seeds (top two best records) receive a bye in the first week of the playoffs, while the #3 seed plays the #6 seed, and the #4 seed plays the #5 seed. In the event of a tie score in a playoff game, the following tie-breaking criteria will be utilized to determine a winner:

    • Go to the next decimal (thousandth)
    • Highest seed advances

SafeLeagues will do its best to monitor for ties, but team managers involved in a tied playoff game MUST contact their SafeLeagues commissioner, so he can apply the tiebreaking criteria to the matchup and determine a winner.

Once winners have been determined for the opening round of the playoffs, the #1 seed will face the winner of the #4 and #5 seed game, and the #2 seed will face the winner of the #3 and #6 seed game (in the second week of the playoffs). The winners of those matchups will then compete in the championship game held the following week. The losers of the semifinal matchups will compete in the consolation game for the third-place prize (also in the final week of the playoffs).

Trades

Trading is permitted, all trades will be automatically processed. They must be done on the site. We can not process agreements in chats or emails. Nothing is official until done on the site.

If you believe that there is collusion involving a trade or a trade is far too unbalanced, email the commissioner. Preferably as soon as you can. If possible, provide evidence as to why you think the trade may be collusive.

In some instances, the commissioner may even reverse a trade if the team is being removed from the league.

In all instances, SafeLeagues’ ruling is final and cannot be appealed or disputed.

Once we get 3 protests for a trade, we’ll look into it (we look for collusion in the many ways we are able and we also check the trade calculator).

If we get 3 protests AND the trade comes up as one side receiving more than 2.5x the value of the other side based on DLF’s trade analyzer, it will be reversed. The analyzers does not currently have startup picks, so collusion will almost always have to be found for us to overturn.

If there is a draft pick trade where all the higher picks are on one side, the trade will almost always be reversed if notified and it will be looked into. If there is an instance where the majority of the higher picks are on one side to a degree it doesn’t make sense, it may be reversed. This includes trades where one side receives something and the other side doesn't. Those will also be reversed and looked into.

Note, some leeway may need to be given with the trade analyzers when TEs are involved in these trades given the heavy TE premium as some of them become much more valuable. DLF is adding a TE Premium value adjustment to their analyzer. Until then, TE value will be multiplied by 1.5 when calculating trades.

If a league complains about a trade and it feels way too unbalanced but doesn't reach the 2.5X and we can’t justify the reasoning for the trade, we may overturn it for the good of the league. This is extremely rare. If this is during a startup, SafeLeagues may on rare occasion, determine if the trade feels like it crosses that threshold if they can't find collusion. But that would be extremely rare.

If an team manager contacts us via email within a reasonable amount of time and says a deal was accepted in error or made an accident in the trade they offered (which often isn't noticed until the trade is accepted), we will reverse that trade as well. It may not be done immediately since we aren’t next to our email at all times, but timestamps will be checked.

During auctions, we must be contacted immediately with an accidental trade, and even then, it may not be able to be undone. We aren’t always next to our email and every minute changes the auction board. Auctions are too fluid. Much like how accidental bids in auction can not be fixed.

Trading of FAAB budget is allowed.

Trading will be allowed immediately once you pay for the league and up until the trade deadline, which is the kickoff of Week 12.

Draft picks may be traded, but no more than one year into the future (i.e. in the year 2018, you can only trade draft picks for the 2018 and 2019 seasons). The following year draft picks become available for trade after we roll over leagues on MyFantasyLeague for the new year. This usually happens in February and March.

Lopsided trades are not allowed in the system if there aren’t enough roster spots to process the trade. If you wish to make a 3 player for 1 player trade… the team manager receiving more players must drop the player(s) necessary so the trade will fit within their roster limit.

Trading Future Picks

Future year draft picks can be traded. You must pay for the future year in order to trade future picks. The link is available in the left side module of every league.

Rights will be reinstated within 24 hours of payment, but it's usually within a matter of hours.

You will only be able to trade picks in years you are paid up in.

Trade Deadline

The final trade deadline is the kickoff of week 12. (kickoff of the first Thursday game)

Waivers / Free Agents

All leagues utilize a Free Agents Acquisition Budgets (FAAB) Blind-Bidding waivers system. Each team manager begins the year with a $1000 FAAB budget to place blind bids on waived players. This is for in season and off season waivers. It’s all you get for the entire year. To pick up a player who is on waivers, a minimum bid of $0 must be made. The team manager with the highest bid will acquire the player, and for the exact dollar amount that was bid. Since this is blind-bidding, other team managers will not be able to see your bid amount (and for what player) until waiver claims are processed. All bid amounts must be made in $1 increments.

FAAB balance will be $1000 per year instead of $100 for all leagues. Only Napoleon and Caesar Empire leagues will remain at $100.

Blind bidding is not conditional. Simply bid the amount you want on a player along with the player you want dropped (if you have an open roster spot you don’t need to drop a player).

In the event two or more team managers bid an equal amount on the same player, the following criteria will be used to break the tie:

  • Earliest Submitted Bid

After each waiver claim period is complete, first-come-first-served (FCFS) players will be available for pick up. All FCFS transactions are $0 and nothing will be deducted from your FAAB balance.

Accidental add/drops can be fixed if notified quickly and in a reasonable amount of time. With waiver runs, accidents are less likely to be fixed, but may be fixed in some cases if emailed quickly and in a reasonable amount of time and also if we are able. It may also be fixed if the accident is clear and obvious. Sometimes it is like putting toothpaste back in the tube and not possible.

Offseason Acquisitions

During rollover, your roster limit will be increased by 4 roster spots to accommodate rookies. The roster limit will be returned to it’s normal setting at the shortly after the rookie drafts (by June 1st for most leagues). Teams would need to get down to the in-season roster limit in order to make waiver moves or trades. Team managers must cut back down to the in-season roster limit by kickoff of Week 1 in order to submit a lineup. Contact us if you see a team who hasn't. In best ball leagues, the cutdown deadline is BY Sept 1. If a team fails to do so, the commissioner will take whatever steps necessary to get your roster within the limit.

In 2022, All Leagues will have the offseason roster increase. It will begin when leagues rollover and will return to it's normal setting between the end of the league rookie draft and by June 1. Rosters will not be checked until September 1 in best ball leagues. Cuts will be made then to get to the limit. In non-best ball leagues, teams will not be able to set a lineup until at the limit. Teams must be under the limit by the first kickoff of week 1. Contact us if you see a roster over the limit after week 1 kicks off. The increase will be 4-10 spots for all leagues. That should be enough to cover any amount of trading.

Waivers will run weekly on Wednesday at 1PM EST starting after the annual rookie draft is completed. These will run from early June through the last Wednesday before the NFL season. It is right around the 2nd Wednesday in June. During the offseason there is no first come, first serve waivers. There are only blind bidding waiver runs each week.

FCFS waivers will start following the last waiver run before the season starts.

In-Season Acquisitions

After the conclusion of Week 1, the first in-season blind-bidding period will run on Wednesday at 1:00 PM EST. At that point, all waiver claims will be processed, and all unclaimed players will be available on a FCFS basis until their respective game kicks off for that week.

Once a player’s game kicks off, they will be put on waivers until the next waiver run on Wednesday at 1:00 PM EST. This schedule/cycle will continue on a weekly basis for the remainder of the fantasy season. The blind bidding process continues during the playoffs in Weeks 15-17, even for teams that have not made the playoffs.

A player may be dropped at any time, regardless of when or how they were acquired.

A player who is dropped may be picked up immediately if the drop does not take place between the kickoff of that player’s game and that week’s waiver run.

NFL Supplemental Draft

Players entering the NFL supplemental will be treated as free agents when MFL adds them and be available by whatever process for acquiring free agents is in place in each league.

Pre Season First Come, First Serve

FCFS waivers will start following the last waiver run before the season starts.

Roster Freeze

All add/drops and lineup changes must be submitted 5 minutes before kickoff for each player involved. This deadline will be enforced on the Game Play Site.

Rosters freeze for all teams after Week 17.

No free agent pickups are allowed between the end of Week 17 and the annual rookie draft.

Undroppable Players

As an anti-collusion and anti-tanking measure, there may be players deemed “undroppable.” In all instances, SafeLeagues will decide whether a player was dropped in an attempt at collusion or tanking.

Illegal Rosters / Throwing Games / Tanking

We are dedicated to ensuring all SafeLeagues are competitive throughout the entire season. The act of “throwing games” (i.e. losing on purpose by submitting a lineup containing injured players, inactive players, free agents, players on bye, or obviously under-performing players) is strictly prohibited. Although the draft order will not be affected by such a move, it creates a win-loss imbalance in the league. Dropping starting caliber players can also potentially be considered tanking as it can sometimes create an win-loss imbalance. The team dropping the player will be more likely to lose their matchup and a team potentially acquiring a starter has a better chance in theirs. It falls under intentionally tanking for a higher draft pick as well. SafeLeagues reserves the right to immediate remove any team manager deemed to be deliberately throwing games from the league without refund. Teams that are abandoned in this way -> See the section entitled “Abandoned Teams” for further details.

SafeLeagues reserves the right to take whatever action is deemed necessary, including inaction or retroactively setting a lineup, to rectify a situation related to throwing games.

Dropping starting caliber or most/all players to hurt the integrity of the league can also result in removal from the league or all leagues without refund. Making trades in an attempt to hurt the integrity of the league of good assets for poor assets to ruin the team / help other teams is also forbidden. This action can also result in removal from the league or all leagues without refund.

If you believe a team in your league is deliberately throwing games, you must notify your SafeLeagues commissioner via email to address the issue. It is solely up to SafeLeagues to determine whether a team is deliberately throwing games, and to determine the appropriate course of action. In a situation where such a determination has not been made until after games have already started for that week (or previous weeks, in the event the tanking team manager is not identified until after they have submitted intentionally bad lineups for several weeks), SafeLeagues may retroactively set the tanking owner’s lineup for the previous week. SafeLeagues will be unable to set the lineup for a week earlier in the season. Players on that team may have changed and may not be available for retroactively setting that lineup. SafeLeagues may also reverse any recent trades made by a team being removed from the league.

Bye week players cannot be in starting lineups. This includes K and DST. If you have no replacements available on your roster, you must pickup a replacement. Refusal to pickup bye week replacements may be considered tanking and may be cause for removal from the league. Rosters may be adjusted by the commissioner at anytime using pregame Fantasy Sharks projections rankings. This means the commissioner will make and necessary add/drops and starting lineup adjustments necessary. Adds will be made based on Fantasy Sharks projections. Drops will be made based on Dynasty League Football ADP or a spare DST or Kicker based on season long rankings.. It is possible there are no replacements on the waiver wire. Fixes will be made to fix possible intentional tanking or refusal to have a valid lineup. It is not meant for simple accidents.

We must be contacted before Monday night in order to correct the previous week’s lineup/roster. Rosters/Lineups and Win/Loss for week’s prior to the previous week will not be altered but will be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to remove an team manager found to be tanking.

It is possible there are no replacements at the QB, K, or DST position available on the waiver wire. In the case where all NFL starters at those positions are owned, starting a bye week player is permitted. To clarify since the above isn’t clear enough… this is for ultra rare instances where all NFL defenses, or all starting NFL kickers, or all starting NFL quarterbacks are rostered. This will never be an issue with running backs or wide receivers.

Starting in 2021, you will need to at least start a non-starter if this happen. That may mean you need to pick up a NFL team's backup QB to start.

Collusion

Player renting is always collusion in any league. It is two teams working together at the detriment of one other team and/or the league. Player renting can be trading a player or players for picks or players and then trading back within the same season. Even if one team acquires slightly more benefit. An example. Team A trades Gurley for a 1st and 4th to team B. A week or two later Team B trades Gurley back for that 1st. Team A keeps the 4th. Even with benefit, player rentals are always collusion in any league. Trading players not on bye for players on bye and then trading back also falls under this. Trading players to one team making a playoff run and then trading those players back after the season also falls under this. Player rentals are always collusion in any league and can not be allowed even once.

Offering anything, money, food, goods, or services, draft picks that aren't accessible yet, benefits of any kindoutside of the actual league for assets in the league constitutes collusion as well. Only trading available picks, players, blind bidding money is allowed. Such trades will be reversed and owners may be removed from the league without refund.

Intentionally and knowingly trading better assets in a trade they know is bad to load up another team can be considered collusion.

Behavior of dropping and adding players between two teams could be considered collusion.

Any working together between two teams in move(s) to help another team win their matchup or the league can be considered collusion.

Abandoned Teams / Refunds

A team may be deemed abandoned for several reasons including but not limited to failure actively manage the team (set lineups, make moves required at certain deadlines, etc) or a non-responsive team manager who has not responded to our attempts to contact. A team may be deemed abandoned even if they respond to our attempts to contact, but still do not begin actively managing their team. If a team has abandoned their team in season, they may be removed from all leagues and banned from Throwback/Safeleagues.

An team manager may leave a league and get a refund before a startup draft begins. After the draft begins, we will be very unlikely to issue a refund, almost never.

Once you pay for a contest/league there are no refunds after you have made any moves (draft picks, waivers, trades, etc).

When a team has been deemed abandoned, either because of a suspected cheating owner, being a non-responsive owner, and/or no longer actively managing their team, SafeLeagues will look for an team manager to take over that team for the remainder of the season. This may also be due to a team being inactive due to not paying for their future season after trading their future 1st.

Additionally, anyone who abandons a team leaving it without a pick in each round (one of each of a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick) may not be allowed to purchase orphans or new teams. This shows an intent to ruin a team's future and shows they are not committed to the future of the teams they purchase.

Additionally, anyone who abandons a team leaving it with just it's 1st round pick and no others, may not be allowed to purchase orphans or new teams. This shows an intent to ruin a team's future and shows they are not committed to the future of the teams they purchase.

If you disappear during your draft and/or are on auto for multiple rounds or don't show up for your draft and timeout in the first round without responding to contact by the commissioner, you may be replaced without refund. If you do not show up for an auction and do not respond to commissioner, you may be replaced without refund.

If you abandon a team during the season (including refusal to pay for the future year due to a future first round pick trade) you will not be able to buy new SafeLeagues teams or orphans the following year or possibly forever.

There will be no refunds for an abandoned team.

This is especially for teams that made the payment to be able to offer and potential trade future picks.

If a team has been deemed abandoned as a result of not making their entry fee payment prior to the League Renewal Deadline, SafeLeagues will attempt to sell the franchise on the SafeLeagues website and/or via email, social media, or other means.

Only under rare circumstances at the discretion of Safeleagues will there be refunds for leagues.

Any contest that does not fill may be cancelled at any time and all teams will be refunded.

If you have orphaned 3 or more teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback that you owned in previous years, you may not be allowed to purchase orphans or new teams. You must also be paid up in your SafeLeagues/Throwback leagues before purchasing orphans or new teams. This includes paying for future years in leagues you have traded your future first. If you abandoned teams in season in previous years, you may not be allowed to purchase new orphans or teams. You may also be banned from buying teams in SafeLeagues/Throwback indefinitely.

If you abandon a team without picks in each round for the next draft, you might not be allowed to buy orphans or new teams.

If you abandon a team with just it's 1st round pick, wrecking the team for a new owner and trading away all their future assets except the first to avoid paying for the next year, you will likely be banned from getting new teams.

Once on the banned list from buying orphans or new teams due to orphaning too many, you must renew all your teams the following year or you will remain on the list and barred from buying new teams. Even if you renew all your teams, you may remained barred from new teams at the discretion of SafeLeagues.

If you abandon 3 or more teams, you may be barred indefinitely from buying new teams and potentially removed from leagues (with refund of future payments) and no longer allowed to be a SafeLeagues customer at the discretion of SafeLeagues.

If you join multiple new leagues and drop them after one year, you may be barred indefinitely from buying new teams and potentially removed from leagues (with refund of future payments) and no longer allowed to be a SafeLeagues customer at the discretion of SafeLeagues.

SafeLeagues maintains the right to remove any team manager from a team, with refund, for any reason. SafeLeagues also reserves the right to refuse their services to any person for any reason. Meaning a yearly ban or lifetime ban.

Season Cancellation / Partial Season / Games postponed or cancelled

If a game is cancelled or postponed that game will not accrue stats in the original week it was scheduled. The only exception to this is if it is postponed within the same NFL week and MFL has the scoring count for that week. Team managers must keep aware of these potential situations. Starting a player in a game with the potential to be cancelled will be treated like starting a questionable (injury) player. The manager assumes the risk and SafeLeagues isn't capable of allowing potential replacements for such an event.

If there is no NFL season, the payments for teams in existing leagues would be pushed back a year (example: to 2021 for 2020 payments and 2022 for 2021 payments, etc).

In the event of a shortened season SafeLeagues, depending on the length of the shortened season, will design a regular season and playoffs that fit, or at least turn into a total points league for the shortened season.

If the season is cut short (cancelled) after a head to head schedule with playoffs is designed for the SafeLeague (the season starts normally and is cancelled before there is a fantasy playoffs or during the playoffs and the playoffs are unable to be played out fully), Winning Percentage (W-L record) at the time the season is cut short will be used to decide the places of the teams with Total Points as the tiebreaker. Leagues without head to head scheduling like Best Ball leagues and the one timer redraft league will be determined by total points of all completed weeks at time of cancellation.

If the season is interrupted, they start and stop and restart... SafeLeagues will finish out the fantasy season along with the NFL. They will work within the settings of MyFantasyLeague to figure out the best course for schedule, and/or playoffs. It is possible there will not be enough games for playoffs.

If there is no season, SafeLeagues will figure out the best way to design rookie draft order after that cancellation of season is decided. It may be the same as the previous year, it may be another way. That decision will not be made until we know for sure there will be no season. Teams trading future draft picks will do so knowing full well of the possibility of no season and a potentially uniquely modified draft order because of it. If the season is cut short, draft order will be determined the same way as normal, by potential points with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (in leagues with a 3rd place) teams drafting in the final 3 spots for all completed regular season weeks.

If the season ends early, trading will be turned off for those unpaid for the future year. Trading will be reinstated once that year is paid for.

8/4 adjustment for shortened season

If the NFL season completes 6 weeks, that will be considered a valid season.

Season Ends After Winners Determined Rookie Order Determined
Week 1-5 season cancelled potential points from all completed regular season weeks
Week 6-14 1st, 2nd, 3rd in win-loss record; total points tiebreaker potential points from all completed regular season weeks with 1st, 2nd, 3rd picking 12th, 11th, 10th respectively
Week 15 1st, 2nd, 3rd in win-loss record; total points as tiebreaker based on regular season standings among 4 remaining teams potential points from all completed regular season weeks with 1st, 2nd, 3rd picking 12th, 11th, 10th respectively
Week 15 1st and 2nd based on win-loss record; total points as tiebreaker based on regular season standings among two teams in champ game.

3rd place based on win-loss record; total points as tiebreaker based on regular season standings among two teams in 3rd place game.
potential points from all completed regular season weeks with 1st, 2nd, 3rd picking 12th, 11th, 10th respectively

Inheritance

If an team manager dies or is otherwise incapacitated, his or her franchise may be bequeathed in accordance with his/her last will and testament, or if incapacitated, member’s power of attorney. Inheritance is restricted as follows:

  1. The heir may not be another member of the same league.
  2. No person may be designated heir to more than one franchise in the same league.
  3. If an team manager does not have an heir designated in his/her last will and testament, the franchise will be treated as an abandoned franchise. In that event, SafeLeagues will assume the abandoned franchise and attempt to sell the franchise to a new owner. See section entitled “Team Manager Rules” for more details about abandonment.
  4. The heir must be listed as a co-team manager on the Game Play Site.
  5. It is the heir’s sole responsibility to contact SafeLeagues to take claim of a franchise prior to the League Renewal Deadline. SafeLeagues will begin re-selling abandoned franchises after the League Renewal Deadline.

Rule Changes

Each year is considered a new fantasy contest we offer for people to pay and play in. When you pay, you enter that contest. We hold spots in the new year’s contest for people who played in last year’s contest until the payment deadline. Once that deadline passes, if someone doesn’t return, we find new people to enter this year’s contest.

Given this is a dynasty league, we don’t change most things. We try to avoid things affect scoring, roster size or things that affect how people have constructed a roster, starting lineup, etc. After year one, people pay each year to play with the current set of rules as they are joining a pre-existing dynasty league contest (a new contest for the next year).

Rule changes that SafeLeagues may happen after the end of the season and prior to the following season/contest.

Scoring, starting lineup, and roster size changes will almost never happen.

SafeLeagues will not have votes to decide any rule change.

Rules are set by SafeLeagues. Payment to play in a SafeLeagues league is an agreement to abide by these rules.

Conduct/Terms of Service

Conduct that is deemed detrimental to the league or to SafeLeagues will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, posts and or emails that are harassing in nature and serve no legitimate purpose other than to cause discord within the league or the SafeLeagues organization. There is a difference between expressing viewpoints or likes/dislikes of a league or format or normal trash talk about occurrences in a league (trades, matchups, etc) and personal attacks or threats toward fellow team managers or the commissioner. Personal attacks or threats toward fellow team managers or the commissioner will not be tolerated. Vulgarity in emails, on the message board, trade comments, or in other ways (text, images, videos, etc) will not be tolerated.

Failure to comply may result in immediate expulsion without refund.

In addition; offensive wording and images in emails, on the message board, trade comments, text, images, team names, team logos, videos, and other various ways) that is disparaging, antogonizing, or offensive towards gender, race, orientation, disabilities, etc will not be tolerated. Instances of this could result in a warning and having the offending text/images taken down, ability to customize your team locked, or even result in immediate expulsion without refund.

In most cases, the commissioner must be notified of these incidents and will deal with them case by case.

In addition, attempts to negatively impact the integrity of the league (i.e. threatening or outright refusal to submit lineups, partaking in bogus trades, disruption of a live draft etc.) will result in an immediate expulsion, without refund, from SafeLeagues.

SafeLeagues expressly reserves the right to immediately modify, suspend or terminate your account and refuse current or future use of any SafeLeagues service, including the fantasy football service, if SafeLeagues, in its sole discretion: (a) believes you have violated or tried to violate the rights of others; (b) becomes aware of information indicating a safety concern for you, other SafeLeagues users, or the general public, or (c) believes that you have acted inconsistently with the spirit or letter of the Terms of Service or the Official Game Instructions.

SafeLeagues maintains the right to remove any team manager from a team, with refund, for any reason. SafeLeagues also reserves the right to refuse their services to any person for any reason. Meaning a yearly ban or lifetime ban.

If you fail to turn in a W9 when required to do to having winnings over $599 net for the prior year, you will not be allowed to retain your teams for the following year and any payments for that year or any future years will not be refunded. Those teams will be orphaned.

If you are unpaid in any leagues, your abilities will be locked in all leagues. A delay in payment may lead to removal from that league or even all leagues.. This is generally due to trading a future first and being unpaid but may also include paying via ACH and it not going through (not clearing) or being refunded the league payment via chargeback from your credit card company or somehow getting a refund from leaguesafe. It may also be from a glitch that allowed you to join the league but the payment did not go through fully on leaguesafe.

To clarify, if unpaid in any leagues as described above: In leagues that set lineups your rights will be axed and the lineup setter will be turned off. In best ball leagues you will score 0 points each week until paid.

If you file a chargeback with your credit card company or get a refund through leaguesafe when you shouldn't per our rules, you may be banned from Safeleagues.

You may not advertise for other leagues in other services similar to ours on our message boards, chats, etc. Doing so could result in removal from the league.

Tanking is prohibited. Examples include, but not limited to, starting injured or bye week players when you have replacements available, or benching players that should obviously be starting. If you see questionable lineups, contact SafeLeagues by email (safeleagues@gmail.com). The commissioner reserves the right to adjust any lineup, if necessary, using the Fantasy Sharks starting lineup guide. Repeated attempts at tanking will result in expulsion without refund.

Failing to submit a lineup multiple times during the season can also result in expulsion.
